The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has presented a cheque of N2.8 million to the family of Inspector of Corps, Ilyasu Abraham, who was killed by terrorists during the attack on Kuje medium custodial centre on July 5.
Abraham was the only security personnel killed during the attack, while six others were wounded.
The Commandant-General of the NSCDC, Dr Ahmed Audi made the presentation of the cheque at the headquarters of the Corps in Abuja.
According to a statement from the Corps spokesman, Olusola Odumosu, a cheque of N2.5m and the sum of N300,000 cash was presented to Mrs Elizabeth Abraham and daughter, Abimiku Blessing at the Corps National Headquarters in Abuja.
The Commandant-General consoled the family, over the loss of their breadwinner and encouraged them that the officer would be remembered as a hero, who died in active serve.
He explained that the money given to the family was in fulfilment of his promise to ensure that necessary compensation is given to the family in due time, stressing that, it is an intervention from government and the Corps to assist the deceased family in ameliorating some burial expenses.
The NSCDC boss pledged his administration’s support to the family of the slain personnel and reiterates his unflinching commitment to the welfare of all officers and men of the Corps.
He further assured the daughter of late Inspector Iliya of employment into the Corps as soon as the Federal Government gives approval for recruitment into the service.
The Kuje Medium Custodial Center was attacked by Boko Haram insurgents on July 5, l during which over 600 inmates escaped, amongst them over 60 were Boko Haram members.
