The police on Monday arraigned a 21-year-old labourer, Stephen Odu, at the Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for breaking into a church and stole electronics worth N1 million.
The defendant, whose address was not given, is standing trial on a two-count charge of stealing and breaking and entering.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Ingobo Emby, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on January 10, at 10:00am at David Christian Centre, Meadow Hall, Elegushi Beach Road, Lekki, Lagos.
He alleged that the defendant broke into the worship centre and stole a 72-inch flat screen television, two big speakers and one electronic amplifier, all properties of the church.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 285 (1) and 307 (2) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges and Magistrate W.B. Balogun granted him bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum.
The case was adjourned till February 15 for hearing.
