Lagos bans open procession during yuletide

The Lagos State government has banned open procession during the yuletide season.

It urged residents to limit such gatherings to the enclosure of the venue.

Briefing reporters after an emergency State Security Council meeting, the Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, said the Council  stopped any form of procession because hoodlums and criminals could hijack the situation.

He said the security situation across the globe requires everyone to be on red alert.

Owoseni said though Lagos was not under any special security threat, proactive measures have been put in place to forestall breakdown of law and order.

“We all know that Christmas and New Year are fast approaching. Looking at what we have on ground in terms of strategies and logistics, the Council is convinced that we can reassure residents that this yuletide will be celebrated without let or hindrance.”

The commissioner said security agencies have been mandated to restrict social gatherings, including open carnivals, urging organisers of such events to let the police know for adequate security arrangements.
