Lagos Commissioner commends Rotary for empowering 74 persons in LCDA

Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tunji Bello, has commended Rotary Club of Gbagada, for empowering 74 youths and adults with the basic skills for the conversion of waste to wealth in Lagos.

 The three-day event tagged Waste to Wealth was held in partnership with Kaltani Company, Mikano International Limited at the Hall of the Ojodu, Local Council Development Area (LCDA). Participants were drawn from six wards with physical challenge persons in attendance. It featured: Conversion of Plastic Wastes to Building Blocks, conversion of used Tyres to Furnitures, conversion of Food wastes to cooking gas and installation of 12 Aggregators in the Ojodu LCDA.

Bello, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Office of Environmental Services, Ministry of Environment, Dr. Tajudeen Omobolaji, said the programme was in partnership with government’s effort to get rid of wastes in every area where they constitute nuisance.

Speaking at the event, the President of Rotary Club, Gbagada, IMP Alozie Nsirimobi, said that the essence of the initiative was to create employment among the teeming unemployed youths as well as help to improve the environment from pollution and degradation.

Earlier, in his words, the Chairman, Ojodu Local Council Development Area, Mayor Olusegun Odunmbaku, commended the club for using its funds and expertise to empower people and improve our environment.
