Lagos community gets task force on marketing, wrong parking

A task force to prevent wrong parking and trading on roads has been inaugurated in Ajah in the Eti-Osa East Local Council Development Area of Lagos State.

Inaugurating the task force branded the Ajah Task Force Monitoring Committee on Marketing and Wrong Parking in the town on Thursday, Mr. Stephen Jaiyeola, a representative of the Sole Administator for the Eti-Osa East Local Council Development Area, Prince Babatunde Ayo Ayeni, called on the members of the committee to work in accordance with the aims and objectives of the body in order to bring about sanity in the Ajah community.

He advised members of the committee to shun all acts capable of damaging their good reputation and see themselves as representatives of people working for the good of the Ajah community.

While presenting the certificate of registration to the committee, Mr. Jaiyeola said: “This certificate does not belong to the chairman of this committee or any of its members. It belongs to the committee. Therefore, work for the progress of the committee now that you are members and later when you are no more members.”

Alhaji Rasak Odunlami, the chairman of the committee and Baba Oja-in-General of Ajah, had earlier said: “This task force is a response to the government’s appeal to Ajah people to find a way of co-operating with the government in its efforts to ensure orderliness in Ajah.

“We made an attempt to put the task force in place before in 2013, but our efforts were in vain. We thank God that we are successful this time around. It is our belief that the whole Ajah residents will co-operate with us to make Ajah a model for other communities in Lagos State.”

Alhaji Odunlami further said: “Our mission is to curb illicit pedestrian trading, illegal parking and vehicle abandoning. It is also our vision to ease the flow of traffic and avoid trading on our inner roads.”

On the aims and objectives of the committee, he said: “We are out to avoid street trading and hawking on our pedestrian ways, ease the flow of traffic on our inner roads and embark on weekly and monthly environmental sanitation.”

He said “the core values of the committee are discipline, orderliness and cleanliness.”

Alhaji Kazim Salami, the Chief Executive Officer of Kaz Oil Nigeria Limited and chairman of Ibile Ajah, expressed his gratitude to Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for bringing developmental projects to Ajah and called on the members of the committee to monitor the use of these projects with the fear of God and in accordance with the objectives of the committee.

He also praised the governor for his determination to transform Ajah and other communities in the state in order to make life more comfortable and safe for all Lagosians.

Police representative, Sergeant Yahyah Abdulahi; Baale-in-Council representative, Chief Sulaimon Alagba; Kick Against Indiscipline representative, Dehinsilu Wasiu; Market Committee representative, Prince Tajudeen Adewunmi Eshinlokun Fowewe; and Lasisi Ademola of Nigeria Health Service expressed the readiness of their organisations to co-operate with the committee in achieving their objectives.
