Lagos election tribunal receives 17 petitions

The Lagos State Election Petitions Tribunal has received 17 petitions arising from the March 28 senatorial and April 11 House of Assembly elections in the state.

The Secretary to the tribunal, Hafsatu Suleiman, who disclosed this to journalists in Lagos on Thursday, also hinted that the tribunal would soon commence sitting in the state.

She said that the tribunal would formally announce the date it would commence sitting.

Suleiman said two petitions were filed by candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, Segun Adewale from Lagos West Senatorial District, and Olabisi Salis-Fakos from Lagos East Senatorial District.

The other 15 petitions, according to her were filed by candidates who contested for positions into the state House of Assembly on April 11.

The Secretary said the election tribunal would sit in the newly inaugurated High Court and Magistrate Court complex named after the first female Chief Judge of the state, late Justice Roseline Omotoso, in GRA Ikeja.
