LAGOS State, through Office of the First Lady, Mrs. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, has urged youths to avoid drug-related acts that can jeopardise their future.

This came to the fore at the 2022 community sensitisation and empowerment at the Lagos House in Ikeja.

Five hundred persons were empowered with tools, such as hair dryers, grinding machines, sewing machines, barber’s kits, among others.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said his government had been engaging Lagosians through execution of people-friendly and community projects to enhance economic opportunities for the people

Sanwo-Olu, represented by Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Folashade Jaji, hailed the governor’s wife  for the initiative and advocacy to tackle Sexual and Gender-based violence in the state.

He said: “It is a fact the family is the bedrock of any society, and a stable family unit is one that will raise strong men and women to lead for success; and government must engage the family to achieve such stability…”

Mrs. Sanwo-Olu said the programme was conceived as a platform to link the government with residents by promoting understanding, ‘which is the essential ingredient to fast-track economic growth’.

“Our intention is to furnish residents with information to propel them to benefit from initiatives of government…’’

The governor’s wife noted that components of the programme, which started in 2019, had been sustained and improved upon, saying, however, that stakeholders should intensify efforts to tackle drug abuse.

‘’Stakeholders have a key role to change the ugly narrative, and this is why we have included the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign to enable participants have a better understanding of the consequences of drug abuse…”
