Lagos fetes uniformed clubs

Lagos state Deputy Governor,  Dr Idiat Adebule has appreciated teachers in the state for their support for the re-launch of uniformed voluntary organisations in schools.

She spoke at the 6th anniversary of the re-introduction of clubs in the state public schools, which held at the Police College, Ikeja.

Mrs Adebule congratulated the pupils, who are members of the various clubs, including Boy’s Scout, the Girl’s Guides, the Red Cross, the Brigade and the Sheriff Guards as they thrilled guests with a parade.

She said: “I am pleased with the various displays. It has convinced me beyond reasonable doubt that the pupils have learnt a lot in the course of their training.”

Adebule urged the pupils to embrace good behaviour, be disciplined and focus on their studies to justify government’s investment in the education sector.

She said: “I must reiterate that this Administration is committed to implementing new policy initiatives geared towards what we call 360 degrees education initiatives in the public schools, which will facilitate the expansion and improvement of a comprehensive and total education of our children through equitable access to appropriate functional education and life-skills programmes.”

The deputy governor also assured government’s commitment to improving schools’ infrastructure, teaching methods and staff quality in order to achieve better performance including the introduction of technology-based teaching learning tools for the senior category of pupils.

“This explains why a huge percentage of the budget is committed to the education sector. I hereby use this medium to call on corporate organisations and worthy individuals to partner the state through vehicles of ‘Adopt-a-school initiative’ to boost the public-private-partnership in our public schools,” Adebule said.

Gifts and trophies were awarded to outstanding pupils at the event, while awards were presented to government officials and outstanding staff of the voluntary organisations.

In the Primary category, St Georges School, Falomo, J.I. School, Ikorodu and LG School, Okorisan were rewarded.

In the Junior School category, Government Model College, Ikorodu, Mulero Junior College, Agege and Ijeshatedo Secondary School, Sanya were also rewarded.
