Lagos to curb pollution from sand spillage

Lagos State, through Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (Office of Mineral Resources), has called on stakeholders in mineral resources sector to avoid environmental pollution.

It urged them to minimise environmental hazards caused by sand spillage on roads. 

Chairman of House of Assembly Committee on Energy and Mineral Resources, Sabur Oluwa, at a forum, cited laws governing solid minerals sector, and urged compliance.

Oluwa stressed importance of supporting government’s ideas to safeguard its assets.

He noted stakeholders should comply with guidelines, and work with regulators in line with the administration’s THEMES Plus agenda to ensure a safer environment. 

Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Mineral Resources, Okanlawon Olowu, noted importance of proper coordination in mining to protect the environment.

He said the forum is to discuss how to develop the sector through responsible mining.
