Lagos to strengthen councils’ procurement process

Lagos State

DIRECTOR General of Lagos State Public Procurement Agency, Mr. Idowu Onafowote, has said engagement of stakeholders will strengthen and facilitate seamless operation of local governments’ procurement process.

Welcoming participants to the discussion on procurement in local governments and local council development areas, he noted that the agency observed an upsurge in divergent views and policies with regards to implementation of Lagos State Public Procurement Law 2021 and operation of public procurement process of councils.

Onafowote said: “our gathering here today will provide answers to some questions agitating our minds. Let me advise our stakeholders to express themselves so we can agree on solution to challenges militating against public procurement at local government level…”

Chairman of House Committee on Procurement, Rauf Age, said: “Lagos remains the focus and reference point of other states and even other countries.”

Another lawmaker, Sobur Olawale, who is the House Committee chairman on Local Government and Community Affairs, said people, especially procurement officers and procurement stakeholders in councils should imbibe the culture of inculcating the tenders board replicated across the state.
