•Govt restates commitment to motivate civil servants
Lagos State Government yesterday urged civil servants to work diligently and assiduously with the fear of God, “as we enter the new year.”
This was contained in the address of the Head of Service, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola, at the 2023 first work day inter-denominational prayers and thanksgiving session for public servants.
Muri-Okunola, who acknowledged the commitment, loyalty and dedication of public servants, said there was need for them to rejig their efforts and be more dedicated to their work than before, because, according to him, “to whom much is given, much is expected.”
He thanked God that despite the turbulence and hazards of 2022, God in his infinite mercy made the workers to see the new year.
Muri-Okunola said besides the payment of 100 per cent of Basic Salary as Year 2022 End of the Year Bonus, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had also approved the release of additional five staff buses into the fleet of the Centralised Staff Bus Scheme.
He said the new buses would cover new routes to help relieve the stress of transportation for workers in those areas.
The HOS disclosed the approval of 100 units of Directors’ Vehicles in fulfilment of the promise made by the governor during his visit to the State Secretariat last October.
He highlighted other projects to include renovation and upgrade of facilities at the Public Service Staff Club and its annexes in the five divisions of the state, completion of the Workers’ Welfare Complex, which comprises a Day Care Centre, a well-equipped Staff Cafeteria, a state-of-the-art recreation centre, a well-stocked Staff Co-operative Store for discounted goods as well as office spaces for the leadership of labour centres, among other amenities that are geared towards the well-being of public servants.
The Permanent Secretary, Public Service Office (P.S.O.), Mrs. Sukanmi Oyegbola, advised public servants to continue to be more proactive in the attainment of the THEMES agenda of the state government, noting that without any doubt, 2023 would be a progressive year for all workers.
Prayers were offered by Muslim and Christian clerics, including Imam Rokeeb Adekunle, Yunus Ayinla and Imam Olorungbebe.
Others are Ven. Ezekiel Oluwadare, Ven. A. Ajayi, Pastor Samson Kilanko and Rev. Bukola Akindele.
