•Offers free cervical cancer test
The African Women in Leadership Organisation (AWLO) has rolled a Grassroots Connect Empowerment Project (GCEP), an initiative of the African Women in Leadership Organisation (AWLO) Lagos Chapter.
The programme is in commemoration of the Golden Jubilee celebration of Lagos State and it is meant to reach out to the less privileged and indigent women in the state.
Speaking at the press parley at the weekend, the Lagos State Chapter Coordinator, Mrs. Maureen Omeibe stated that the maiden edition targets 200 women resident in the state who will be provided a special and free cervical cancer screening and 50 other women from four local government areas in Lagos will be beneficiaries of AWLO’s ‘Holding Hands Lifting Up Package’.
“The 50 women will have small scale-businesses set up for them and learn skills at our chosen skill acquisition centres. The following four local government areas- Mushin, Ikeja, Kosofe and Oshodi/Isolo are the first set of beneficiaries.”
She added that core beneficiaries of the project are strictly poorly placed women and the right criteria has been set up to make selections devoid of any form of bias and complacency.
It is to work in partnership with the Medical Women Association of Nigeria, Self-Worth Organisation and DEGAB Logistics.
