Lawmaker stresses collaboration at public administrators confab

Member representing Essien Udim Constituency in Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Ukpong Akpabio II, has stressed collaboration between the academia, policymakers and practitioners to reposition public administration as a driver of national development.

Akpabio II delivered the opening remarks at the Fifth Annual International Conference of the Association of Nigeria Public Administrators (ANPA) in Uyo. He noted the critical role public administrators play in advancing sustainable development and strengthening democracy.

Fellow and Board of Trustees’ member of ANPA, Akpabio II lauded Akwa Ibom, Enugu states and stakeholders for their support in hosting the conference.

The lawmaker, who holds a Master’s in Public Administration from Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU), noted the contributions of Secretary to Akwa Ibom State, Enobong Uwah, represented by Lands Commissioner, Ubong Inyang; Secretary to Enugu State, Prof Chidiebere Onyia; as well as Prof Kamilu Fage, of Bayero University.

The conference, hosted by AKSU’s Public Administration Department, held under the theme: “Public Administration and Sustainable Development: Building Resilient Institutions in Nigeria.”

Participants discussed the nexus between effective public administration and attainment of sustainable development goals.

Akpabio II, House Committee Chair on Rules, Business, Ethics and Privileges, reiterated that strengthening institutions through sound public administration practice is key to Nigeria’s transformation.

Highlight was the decoration of Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, as Grand Fellow.
