Ahead of next Wednesday’s CAF Champions League Group B match between Enyimba and South African side Mamelodi Sundowns, the People’s Elephant forward Peter Onyekachi has warned his teammates against making mistakes.
Enyimba lost their opening game 1-0 against Egyptian side Zamalek courtesy an early goal by Bassem Morsy on a pitch soaked by torrential rain at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt while Sundowns defeated Algeria side Entente Setif 2-0 away from home.
However, Onyekachi who was rested for the 1-0 win over Abia Warriors in midweek is confident Enyimba can pick maximum points in South Africa as they look to bounce back from their opening day loss.
“Our aim going to South Africa is just to let Nigerians know that what happened in Nigeria was a mistake and we are determine to avoid any more slip up as a team,” the 22-year-old told SportingLife.
“We are going there with the mind to win and we believe that if we double our efforts we will achieve it. We know it will not be an easy game but we have prepared very well for them and believe that we can win.”
Enyimba are scheduled to depart Nigeria on Saturday for the encounter. A win will get them back in the race to make the semi-finals while a defeat will leave them with a huge mountain to climb.
