A 28-year-old man, Kayode Seun, who allegedly kidnapped three female students, was yesterday arraigned at an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court in Ekiti State.
Seun, whose address was not provided, is facing a one-count charge of kidnapping. Prosecutor Oriyomi Akinwale told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offence with others at large on May 2 at Ayetoro-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant kidnapped the students- Adebisi Tayo, Ogunleye Temiloluwa and Deborah Yusuf- at a bush path and tied them on a tree.
Akinwale said the police later rescued the students and they were reunited with their parents.
The offence contravenes Section 371 (1) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2012. The prosecutor urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the case file and assemble his witnesses.
The defendant pleaded not guilty.
Defence counsel Mr. Emmanuel Adedeji urged the court to grant his client bail on liberal terms, promising he will not jump bail. Magistrate Modupe Afeniforo granted the defendant bail at N100, 000 with two sureties.
She said the sureties should be civil servants on grade level 10 and adjourned the case till June 12 for mention.
