A 31-year-old man, Seye Ayanda, who allegedly assaulted two security guards at a hotel, was on Friday charged before a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Ayanda, whose address was not given, is facing a seven-count charge bordering on conspiracy, breach of peace, assault and cultism.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Police Prosecutor Benson Emuerhi told the court that the accused committed the offences with some others still at large on July 17at Golden Face Hotel, Kekere-Ekun, Orile Iganmu, Lagos.
Emuerhi said the accused and his partners conducted themselves in a manner that breached the peace by arming themselves with various dangerous weapons.
He alleged that the accused assaulted Toyosi Olasunkanmi and Adedayo Kolade who were security men on duty at the hotel.
“He used a dagger to inflict deep cuts on their heads and threatened to kill them.
“The accused belonged to Aye secret cult, an unlawful secret society which is against the law,’’ he said.
Emuerhi said the offences contravened Sections 42(1) (a), 51, 56, 411, 168(d), 173and 246(a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The Magistrate, Mrs. A.A Famobiwo, granted him bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Famobiwo, said one of the sureties should be a blood relation of the accused, while the other surety should be a community leader or a cleric.
She said both sureties should show evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
Famobiwo adjourned the case until Aug. 10, for mention.
