A 38-year-old man, Afolabi Olaoye, has been remanded in prison for allegedly planning to attack a traditional ruler in Ekiti State.
Olaoye was arraigned at an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court yesterday for alleged attempted murder and possession of firearm.
The accused, whose address was not provided, is being tried for attempted murder and possession of firearm.
Police prosecutor Insp Caleb Leranmo alleged the accused committed the offence on September 8, at Odo-Owa in Ijero-Ekiti Local Government.
He alleged the accused attempted to murder Mrs Dada Yemi and threatened Oba Ayorinde Oyedeji of Odo-Owa with dangerous weapons in his palace.
Leranmo also said the accused was arrested with unlawful possession of firearm.
He said the offence contravened Section 3 of the Robbery and Firearm Act, punishable under Section 320 and 332 (2) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State 2012.
The prosecutor urged the court to remand the accused in prison pending legal advice from the Office of Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
His plea was not taken; the Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Ajibade, ordered the accused remanded, and adjourned the case till October 30 for mention.
