Many are suffering in the midst of plenty – Aboderin

Abimbola Aboderin

Chief Abimbola Aboderin, a serial entrepreneur, security expert and politician recently unveiled plans for the next phase of his political career in Lagos tagged, ” Operation Rescue Nigeria again “.

“This is centered on the state of affairs in Nigeria and the race for the much anticipated 2023 General election. I am highly motivated and determined to put myself forward when I remember the great quote by former American President John F. Kennedy in his inaugural address when he said: “ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country”.

Over the years, trained International and financial advisers have supported the country in different capacities. His passion for security also made him work with the Nigerian armed forces and he strongly believes that his vast experiences would be very relevant at this time.

“I am not happy with the situation of things in our great nation; many cannot afford to eat the normal three square meals. I can say that the President, Muhammad Buhari is not the root cause of our problem. Our problem has its root cause in age-old corruption which has been in our system for a long time. I am ready to salvage Nigeria with my wealth
of experience and international connections “.

He continued: “My support and loyalty to Nigeria transcend the financial world. I have been involved in sports development and solid minerals development. In entertainment, I brought the biggest musical show in the world called Sun splash to Nigeria in1988 at the TBS for 3 days with globally famous superstars like Fela, Sunny Ade, Uroy and Burning Spear.”

He also talked about his experience in politics and some of the lessons learnt. “I was born into it, I ran for Senate twice. My father was the money bag behind Awolowo. So, he was always discussing politics at home. He came to me in the US and said when you finish your Master’s come home and be a senator. He formed UPN with chief Awolowo.

When I was ready for politics, Adedibu and I became very close. By 6 am I am already in his house reading newspapers for him. When Abiola came, we started politics big time. We were able to raise money for his 1993 campaign, about 300 million naira”.
Aboderin added: “In the midst of plenty people are suffering, in the midst of plenty people are jobless, in the midst of plenty people are hopeless, people are hungry. How long are we going to do this, in the midst of intelligent people, it is a shame”.

Corruption, he opines has eaten deep into the fabric of the society.

“We are in trouble. Corruption came in mostly after the civil war and then you had the policy of chop I chop. Everyone is after their pocket and it has become so bad these days. I must say that parents have a lot of work to do and we must change the trend. Look around at what is happening in secondary schools, the same thing in universities and there is corruption everywhere. First, is the almighty God and then comes our nation Nigeria. That is the way we should all be thinking. Unfortunately, Nigerian politics today is politics of money. To survive, all hands must be on deck and the national interest must be above other interests. “To survive, we must try to diversify our income. So, I tried my best in the area of solid minerals”.
