Masari appoints Chancellor, Ag Vice Chancellor for varsity

Katsina State Governor Aminu Bello Masari has approved the appointment of Senator Ibrahim Ida and Prof Abdulhamid Ahmed, as Chancellor and Acting Vice Chancellor, respectively, of the state-owned Umaru Musa Yar’Adua University.

A statement by Director Press of the Secretary to the Government of the state, Alhaji Abdullahi Aliyu Yar’adu, said the appointment was based on the powers vested on the governor by the provisions of the first schedule of the university’s establishment Law No 7 of 2006.

He said: The appointment of Senator Ida was in recognition of his enviable track record of service to humanity and to the government and people of Katsina state.

‘’The appointment letter, signed by the Secretary to the Government of the state, Alhaji Muktari Lawal, expressed optimism that, the new Chancellor would bring his sense of duty and enormous wealth of experience to bear in this new task for the overall development of the university’’

The Nation recalled that the former Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof Sanusi Mamman, was sacked following the adoption of the recommendations of the white paper drafting committee on the visitation panel that investigated the activities of the university.

Masari’s Special Adviser on Higher Education, Dr. Bashir Ruwagodia who had announced the sack, said it was established that there were procedural bridges, financial misconducts and other moral issues in the panel’s report which the state government must take far-reaching decisions to save the university from being crippled.
