First African Church, the first indigenous church in the nation, last Sunday installed a new primate. He is Most Rev. Sunday Matilukuro.
Matilukuro was elected 2nd primate of the church at the 2016 annual national convention in Igbokoda, Ogun state.
Speaking with our correspondent after the installment, he promised to take the church to the next level.
Matilukuro pledged to concentrate on evangelism as well as women and youth empowerment.
He also said he would build convention ground and complete the seminary building of the first indigenous church in the nation.
According to him: “On evangelism, the First African Church is not adequately known in Nigeria today, we are a church of 125 years old.
“We are the first church founded by indigenous Africans and when Nigeria got independence in 1960, late Nnmadi Azikwe had his independence thanksgiving service in the church.
“Yet, the church is not well known all over the country. By God’s grace, I am expecting that in the next five years, there will be explosion of harvest of souls in the church.”
Matilukuro said it is necessary for all Nigerians to support President Buhari’s administration towards having a better country.
According to him: “I see President Buhari as someone who loves this country. If we give him the support that he requires, I believe we will experience a turnaround in our country.
“Nobody should expect any magic. Things have gone very bad before now and that is why we need concerted efforts to bring everything back to normalcy and we will begin to enjoy. I believe at the end of the tunnel there will be light.”
Admonishing the new primate and the congregation on selfless service in his sermon titled: “Self-denial and humility”, the outgoing Primate, Most Rev. Emmanuel Koya, urged members to imbibe the exemplary values of Jesus Christ.
He challenged the new primate not to compromise while discharging his ministerial duties.
He urged him to please God rather than men no matter the confrontations or ministerial challenges.
