Media, others tasked on monitoring of UBEC/SUBEB projects

The media  and civil society organisations have been urged to ensure proper monitoring of  school projects to enhance proper implementation. A non governmental organisation based in Lagos State, Human Development Initiative (HDI) made the  call during a roundtable meeting with the groups.

The Executive Director of the group,  Dr Funso Owasanoye, regretted the poor implementation of some of the contents of the 2016 UBEC/SUBEB projects in Lagos State, and  the media and the civil society to play critical roles in monitoring  education projects in Lagos State.

“ Many schools in Lagos State still have dilapidated structures while some  have no infrastructure at all. The support of the media and cosine this regard is the only way that good and qualitative education can be achieved in Lagos State.  The media should be advocate of change by reporting any school in bad shape to us and other relevant stakeholders.

Reports by the group’s monitoring teams revealed that   some  of the schools are yet to get the furniture included in the action plan while some that have received, did not get the exact number in the action plan.

The Programme  Manager, Johnson Ibidapo said that a total of N2.8 billion was earmarked for the execution of the 2016 action plan. The sum comprises N1.4billion  matching grant from UBEC and  N1.4 billion counterpart funding from the state government.
