Methodist Church holds synod

All is set for the 2023 Annual Synod of the Methodist Church Nigeria, Diocese of Lagos West.

The three-day event coming up at Methodist Church Nigeria, Cathedral of Blessing, Palm Avenue, Mushin, Lagos will begin on Friday with the ministerial and lay sessions. The lawmaker-elect representing Mushin Constituency 2 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr. Oluwatoyin Fayinka, is expected to declare the synod open at the opening ceremony on Saturday, while the synod will be rounded off with a thanksgiving service on Sundayat the same venue during the 10am service.

The chief host of the synod, the Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Revd. Ezekiel Akande, said: “The theme for this year’s synod, ‘Contending for the faith’, has been prayerfully selected to challenge Christians to fight for what they believe in as children of God, in order to turn Nigeria to a country that will continue to experience peace in all ramifications.”

He added: “The promise of God to us as a nation and the whole world is to bring stoppage to calamities in our land, all natural disasters and self- destruction around us and ultimately turn our challenges to opportunities with the new things that God will do in our lives as his beloved children.”  The Lay President, Diocese of Lagos West, Bro Deji Aderibigbe, said: “This year’s synod is expected to attract personalities within and outside the Methodist family to be led by His Eminence, Dr. Oliver Ali-Aba, Prelate, Methodist Church Nigeria, among other dignitaries.”
