Minister calls for law against hate speech

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Lai Mohammed has called for the establishment of law that will guard against hate in the country.
The minister represented by a permanent secretary in the Ministry, Mrs Grace Gekpe made the call at the second Nigeria Union of Journalist, (NUJ) National Conference in Kano.
He said hate speeches hinders development and should be stopped, saying a law should be in place to  guard against it for the betterness of Nigeria.
Also the Director General of National Orientation Agency (NOA), Garba Abari also said journalists should be cautious in their reporting
The DG in a lecture titled “why hate speech is not free speech” emphasized the need for journalists to be cautious in their reportage and guard against hate speeches.
In his address, National President of NUJ, Comrade Waheed Odusile said journalists in the country would continue to play their role as fourth Estate of the realm to unite the nation.
He noted that hate speeches has created more problem than good in the country and  must be discouraged
