The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Malam Muhammad Bello, has paid N2.9 billion promotion salary arrears of members of staff of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).
The Chairman of the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC), the umbrella body of the various employees’ unions in the FCTA, Comrade Korede Matilukuro, stated this during the first quarterly meeting of the JUAC and the FCT Administration.
Matilukuro commended Bello for his efforts in creating a working environment conducive to the workers and putting their welfare on the front burner of the Administration’s industrial relations agenda.
He thanked the minister for the payment of promotion salary arrears to FCTA workers in December 2021.
His words: “Without telling us in December, the minister went out of his way and paid a whopping sum of N2.9 billion just for promotion arrears without telling anyone.”
He also said: “Also benefiting from the promotion arrears are those that had retired. That’s how far the minister has gone. So, we are not regretting taking that position.”
