MLJ FDN has announced plans to release the list of essential new and rising artistes poised to make a major impact in 2022.
The previous year was largely without concerts and shared experiences around music, which made forming a connection with new artists difficult, but not impossible. Many turned to social media and livestreams, others let the music do the talking, and in some ways 2020 and 2021 were promising years for more rising artists than usual.
According to the founder of the non-profit organization, Mpakaboari LongJohn, there are many new essential and rising artists poised to make a major impact in the music industry and they will be revealed soon.
As is now tradition, the foundation has taken care to draw up a list of fast-rising Nigerian talents, making diverse sounding music and representing different subcultures and lifestyles, that are sure to influence and inform the Nigerian airwaves as the year unfolds.
Some of these are brand new artists who just getting started while some are those who leveled up and hit their stride, but are worth keeping an eye on this year.
Speaking about the plans, Mpaka said; “I am an avid believer that there a lot of talents that will blow your minds. They are like a hidden gem in the middle of this country that is completely underrated.
“Many of these artistes we are unveiling soon, I did not expect to find what I found: the true, in-depth human connections that they showed through their music, the likes of BNXN,” he stated this in an Instagram post.
MLJ Foundation’s works during the lockdown caused by COVID-19 include emergency assistance, work opportunities, and community engagement for hip-hop and Afrobeats musicians.
