Award-winning rapper and lyricist, Babatunde Olusegun aka Modenine has shared tips on how Nigerian rappers can revive hip-hop and rap culture.
This is coming after Wizkid, in a recent interview, hinted that ‘rap is dead.’ The statement set the internet on fire with many rappers including entertainers and hip-hop lovers expressing different reactions.
To weigh in on the raging conversation, Modenine decided to give some hints on how the hip-hop space in the Nigerian music industry can be revived.
He said, “Why hip-hop is not thriving is because y’all motherfuckers are divided. Join Rap Radio Africa to find out what they are doing. You have to form your own little gang, you have to come speak, one voice, and organise shows and get these rappers paid. All you guys complaining about hip hop.”
Continuing the ‘Cry’ singer said, “Don’t worry about what Wizkid said, worry about following rap radio, join the band. You all are just worried about Wizkid, did he go to your fathers working place to tell his boss to sack him? So that you people don’t have food on the table? Does it change the fact that you are going to eat tonight? Does it have any effect on whether you eat tomorrow night, tonight, or this afternoon? No. Join rap radio, Africa, follow their every move, and get in where you fit in. If you are a rapper, stop complaining.”
He further noted that Rap Radio Africa is not owned by him noting that he had zero stakes on the platform but rather the platform was meant to support rappers and help the hip hop culture in Africa and advised all rappers to tap in.
