A month-old baby boy has been abandoned on a commercial bus in Anambra State.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) said yesterday that the baby, who was left on the bus on September 6, was now in the custody of the Corps.

Spokesman of the outfit Edwin Okadigbo, in a statement, appealed to the public to help in locating the child’s relatives.

He said: “Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Anambra State Command request the assistance of the public in locating the relatives, parents or mother of a baby boy estimated to be about a month old who was recovered by a staff member of the corps after being abandoned seemingly by its mother in a bus.”

Okadigbo said the child’s mother handed him over to a corps operative, who was a co-passenger, under the pretext that she was going to ease herself.

“After about three hours wait and search, she was nowhere to be found,” Okadigbo added.

“The infant is currently kept at a place of safety while tracing of his unknown parents and relatives continues.”
