In his bid to fulfil the promise he made to the Benue State Governor, His Excellency Samuel Ortom, Moses Simon Unity Cup will make its debut as from Friday to help nurture talents in the grassroots.

A total of 150 teams will have the chance to be a part of the inaugural edition of the tournament that is sponsored by Super Eagles and Nantes of France winger, Moses Simon.

The tournament is aimed at redeeming the pledge made by Simon when he visited the governor of his Benue State Samuel Ortom during his last visit to Nigeria. He also met with the wife of the governor Dame Eunice Ortom.

It will start on Friday at Obagaji before the train will move to Apah and other zones. The final will be played in December with the governor and his wife expected to grace the occasion planned for the Aper Aku stadium in Makurdi.

According to the winger, the idea is to discover talents who will be handed a chance at the Simoiben Football Academy in Kaduna, which is owned and funded by the wife of the Nantes winger.

Selected players will engaged Simoiben Football Academy in a test game at the end of the tournament. All 150 teams will get a ball each for participating at the tournament while the first three teams will get other gifts items which including jerseys, bibs and more.

In a related development, Nasarawa United have zoomed to the semi-final of the on-going Unity Preseason Tournament after a hard fought 1-0 win over Nigeria National League side, City FC yesterday in Abuja.

Emeka Onyema scored the deciding goal in the 59th and despite all the efforts from the NNL side to equalise, the Solid Miners held In to get the lone goal victory.

Nasarawa United began the Unity Preseason Tournament with a 2-0 win over Mailantarki FC before another 2-1 victory over Like-Minds FC.
