Motorcycle thief gets two years

An Okitipupa Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State, yesterday, sentenced a 25-year-old man, Monday Ojowuro, to two-year imprisonment for stealing a motorcycle, valued at N150,000.

The Magistrate, Mr. Banji Ayeomoni, jailed Ojowuro after he pleaded guilty to the one-count charge.

He held that the convict should serve his term without fine, saying this would act as a deterrent to others.

Ayeomoni ordered the police to release the motorcycle to the owner.

Police Prosecutor Zedekiah Orogbemi had told the court the accused committed the offence on July 1, at Awo Camp, Ode-Irele Road, Okitipupa.

He said the accused stole A blue Hajoue Elegant motorcycle, property of Seun Oluwole.

“The accused stole the motorcycle, with engine No. 156FML2C3K76853 and chassis No. LC6PCJM6F0034133, from where it was parked,’’ Orogbemi said.

He said the offence contravened Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Law of Ondo State, 2006.

However, Ojowuro pleaded for leniency, saying he is the eldest of seven children.

“I have responsibilities; I stole to take care of the family,’’ he said.
