The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, has pledged to move the state’s economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion through technology and innovation.

The industrialist said his plan is not to reduce poverty but to eradicate it and achieve zero hunger by making Enugu the country’s food basket.

Mbah spoke in Ugbonabor, Awgu Local Government Area (LGA) where he got the endorsement of supporters and loyalists of the lawmaker representing Enugu West senatorial zone, Senator Ike Ekweremadu ahead of next year’s general elections.

Others were supporters and loyalists, across party lines, of Greater Awgu people, comprising Aninri, Oji River and Awgu Local Government Area. They pledged.

Mbah said: “Enugu State is going to be a net exporter of different products. We will grow agriculture to $10 billion in the next four years. We are going to use technology to drive our economy. Our government is going to be about the people. Our core mission is to deliver quality and people-focused governance.”

Mbah said: “Today, we have the best of our very best in terms of community mobilisation here with us. This shows the state of our party in Enugu West is intact. Enugu West has people that understand the value of trust and loyalty.”

He expressed optimism that Ekweremadu would soon be released, commending him for his integrity and for honouring his promise.

The supporters said they were convinced by Mbah’s action plan and his experience in the public and private sectors.

Co-host of the event and member representing Oji River/Awgu/Aninri Federal Constituency, Toby Okechukwu, said the people of Greater Awgu backed Mbah because of his proven capacity to deliver on his promises.

”Our mission is settled. This gathering has the blessings of Ikeoha Ndigbo, Senator Ike Ekweremadu. We felt our promise was our honour. Before his trip, Senator Ekweremadu said we should support you, and this is in fulfilment of that promise.

The Chairman of Awgu Local Government Area, Pedro Okwudiri, also expressed support, adding: “We are going to queue behind you and support your candidacy in the Enugu West senatorial zone. We promise that PDP is going to take it during the forthcoming elections.”
