Over N2 million and vehicles will be up for grabs at the maiden edition of the University of Ilorin Marathon Race scheduled to hold in October this year as part of the activities to celebrate the institution’s 40th year anniversary.
While unveiling the logo for the competition at the auditorium of the institution yesterday, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof AbdulGaniyu Ambali said that the 21-kilometre race, with the theme ‘celebrating academic stability’ will be staged in partnership with Sovereign Campus Concept Limited (SCCL).
Ambali, who was represented by the Chairman, University of Ilorin Sports Council, Prof Uche Bassey Eke acknowledged SCCL for their interest in empowering the students, promoting the schools’s image and their contribution towards making the university better.
He said the university has become better by far since its establishment 40 years ago, and in commemorating the historical milestone, the marathon will be part of the 31st convocation ceremony this year.
Participants will be primarily students of the university and interested members of staff, with invitation also to be extended to five marathoners each from seven Kwara higher institutions which include Kwara State University, Kwara Polytechnic, Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Colleges of Education, Ilorin, Oro and Lafiagi, as well as Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin.
