Following the absence of Victor Osimhen in Napoli’s 4-1 away win over Cremonese, coach Luciano Spalletti has said that he decided to drop him to recover fully from his hamstring injury.

Osimhen has been out since September 7 when he sustained an injury when Napoli hosted Liverpool on Day One of the UEFA Champions League (UCL) and he has missed Napoli’s last five Serie A matches.

Speaking after their win yesterday, Spalletti said: “These are assessments that are made after clinical examinations and conditions. You put everything together and risk nothing, we saw it already the other time and we were left without a player who could have been decisive.

“ We want Osimhen to be available in the best possible way. At the level he has, putting everything together we decided to give him one more shift.

“He is not in condition yet, he has had a reduced training, then tomorrow he is on the bench but would not train for 10 minutes? Today and tomorrow he will train hard and we will have it available,” he added.

Osimhen was touted for a possible return for yesterday’s game against Cremonese, but the Super Eagles striker was not listed for the match by Spalletti.
