Nasarawa Assembly lifts suspension on member Zhekaba

Nasarawa State House of Assembly has lifted the suspension on the member representing Obi II State Constituency, Luka Iliya Zhekaba over his alleged involvement in the recruitment of 366 teachers and inclusion of names of 38 teachers in the payroll of the State Civil Service without due process.

Speaker of the Assembly, Ibrahim Balarabe-Abdullahi lifted the suspension after the House deliberated on the report during the House’s proceedings yesterday in Lafia, the state capital.

Speaker Balarabe directed the suspended member to resume work immediately.

“The recommendations are as follows, first, in order to protect the integrity and uphold the sanctity of this institution, membership of Luka Iliya Zhekaba be withdrawn from the House Committee on Education.

“That Luka Iliya Zhekaba should be warned strongly not to compromise with the undue process in future engagements.

“Members be also cautioned not to indulge in any illegality that may dent the good name of this revered institution.

“Luka Iliya Zhekaba should resume duty immediately,” the Speaker said.

Balarabe-Abdullahi has directed the Clerk of the House to communicate the suspended member to resume work immediately.

Tanko Tunga, the Majority Leader of the House moved a motion for the adoption of the report.

Abel Bala, the Minority Leader of the House seconded the motion.

The House unanimously adopted the report.

The House also passed into Second Reading a Bill for a Law to Establish Customary Courts of Law and other Related Matters Thereto.
