National essay competition opens

The website for the second ever “If I were president” National Essay Competition has opened officially.

The competition, which aims at raising the awareness and value young people place on leadership, especially office of the president, creates a platform through which ideas of youths can get to the highest authorities.

The convener, Toluwalope Adebayo, said: “The initiative consists of a national essay competition for young people within the age bracket of 18 – 39 years, a debate by the finalists, conferences and a creative compilation of winning essays into a book, which will be presented to the President at a meeting with the presidency.”

The site, www.iiwpn.com, opened yesterday to coincide with nation’s 56th independence celebration and closes by December 31.

Adebayo said 100,000 participants, 1000 volunteers, 2000 judges and interested sponsors will participate in the competition.
