A national tennis coach Nathaniel Yebufura slumped and died while waiting to see the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Benue State Police Command in Makurdi at the weekend.
He was also a member of the tennis section of the Police Officers Mess, Makurdi.
NationSport learnt that the coach arrived at the Benue state command headquarters at about 10:45 am on Friday and climbed upstairs to the office of the PPRO.
It was while waiting for the PPRO, who was with the Commissioner of Police that he slumped on the chair. He was rushed to the Police clinic within the command headquarters but confirmed dead on arrival.
Coach Yebufura, who hailed from Bayelsa State started his sporting career as a footballer and played for Hawks FC and Benue Brewery FC, now Lobi Stars Football Club of Makurdi.
He later switched to tennis and got employed with Benue State Sports Council as a performing athlete.
He represented the country and Benue state at different levels, and later was a tennis umpire across the country.
He retired from the Benue state Civil service in 2013, but remained active in the game of tennis and was captain of Aper Aku Stadium Tennis Club, Makurdi.
