The third edition of National U-12/15 boys and girls handball championship ended in Sokoto with participants including officials numbering 200 departing with N25,000 each.

Closing the fiesta , Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal announced the gift.

Though, this year’s edition tagged Sokoto 2022, recorded the lowest turnout from participating states as the fiesta featured only teams from Kebbi, Zamfara, Katsina, FCT and host, Sokoto state  as well as three academies from Sokoto, Suleja and Kwara.

Recalled that the last two editions featured numerous boys and girls teams in the two age grade categories from Kano, Kaduna, Imo, Lagos, Anambra, Benue, Adamawa with  host of handball academies.

In this year’s edition, only five teams, C&S FPS Academy, Kebbi, Sokoto, FCT and Caliphate Academy competed for honour in the U-12 boys’ category, with host state featured two teams. Three teams from Kebbi, Sokoto and FCT slug it out in the U-12 girls’ category. Besides, teams that competed for honour in the U-15 boys category are: Kebbi, Sokoto, FCT, Caliphate Academy, Suleja Shooters, Zamfara and Just like in the U-12 girls category, C&S FPS Academy, Kebbi and Sokoto also battled in the U-15 girls category.

In the U-15 boys category final encounter , host team, Rima Strikers backed by the vociferous home fans, outplayed  Equity boys from Kebbi in the presence of the Governor  Tambuwal, Senator Abdul Ningi, Hon. Akibu Dalhatu, Aminu Bala Bodinga and host of others as they stamped their supremacy and  with a convincing 21-8  win to climax the tournament with medals  presented to all the winning teams.
