- 4,454 candidates caught for alleged exam malpractices
- Exam body blacklists four supervisors
The National Examination Council (NECO) has recorded 78 per cent pass in the 2021 School Certificate Examination.
The council also said it caught 4,454 candidates during its 2021 external School Certificate Examination (SCE).
The examination body said these while announcing the release of the result of the examination.
The result, which was released 64 days after the last paper was written, had a 78 per cent pass rate.
NECO’s Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, who announced the result at the council’s headquarters in Minna, the Niger State capital, said four supervisors were blacklisted.
“A supervisor was blacklisted from Niger State, one from Borno State and two from Delta State, for aiding and abetting during the examination. These supervisors would no longer be engaged in the conduct of NECO examinations,” he said.
The NECO boss reiterated the council’s zero tolerance for examination malpractice, saying appropriate standards and excellence were maintained from the planning stage to the release of results.
Wushishi said 49,916 candidates registered for the November – December external examination, adding that 36,116 out of 45,821 candidates made Credit and above in English language, representing 78.04 per cent.
The NECO registrar said 35,706 out of 45,756 candidates, representing 78.04 per cent, made five Credits and above in Mathematics.
“The total number of candidates who got five credits and above, including English and Mathematics, is 29,342, representing 62.59 per cent, while on the other hand, 37,991 candidates, representing 81.04 per cent, got five Credits and above, irrespective of English and mathematics,” he said.
On examination malpractice, Wushishi said 4,454 candidates were caught for various infractions as against 6,465 recorded in 2020.
