Former African and national triple jumper record holder, Rosa Collins
has declared that all was not lost for the sport in the country.
Having secured a board membership of the AFN on the platform of
Nigeria Association of Women in Sports (NAWIS), Collins stated that
resuscitating and rebranding the sport was her cardinal agenda. The
Harare 1995 All Africa Games triple jump champion called on all
genuine athletics stake holders, to join ranks for the onerous task
ahead.
“For years we have been groaning about the poor state of Nigerian
athletics. But now is the time for us all who are in the sport to put
in our little effort to revive it.
“Athletes, coaches and administrators, it was this sport that made us
who we are. So as we are looking forward to a new era, resuscitating
and rebranding athletics in Nigeria is our major focus. Everything we
are doing must have to be geared towards getting results and at the
same time providing the athletes and coaches with excellent welfare,”
said Ms. Collins
She is regarded as the front runner for the AFN top position, having
garnered support from athletics stakeholders from across the country.
With her strong will and down to earth disposition, many are of the
opinion that Collins an accomplished business woman will do well with
athletics if given the chance to run the federation.
