Nigerians react to removal of verified badge on Twitter

Nigerian celebrities with verified badges have reacted after Twitter owner Elon Musk struck on Thursday, removing the verified badge on accounts of top personalities and celebrities across the globe. 

The development created a frenzy, leaving Twitter more whitish than bluish.

Celebrities, influencers, journalists and others without a subscription to the platform lost their verified status. 

But Twitter Daily News said Tesla CEO has “offered some celebrities a complimentary Twitter Blue subscription ‘on behalf of Elon Musk.’”

Confirming the development, Musk tweeted: “I’m paying for a few personally.”

Kate Henshaw tweeted: “We no dey pay shishi..

We still for here..Jack is missed..”

Mr P stated: “Elon Musk is a BUSINESS MAN Period!”

Kingsley Moghalu said: “Goodbye to my Twitter blue tick. Life goes on. No, I won’t be paying $8 a month. It’s not the same thing as getting it as recognition.”

Akin Alabi wrote: “Even though I’m affected, I’m happy legacy verification ticks have been removed. The I get sense pass you because of blue tick became nauseating. I will sign up for Twitter Blue. It has nice features.”

Tony Elumelu stated: “Woke up to see that my verification tick has disappeared. Wahala!”

Music video director, TG Omori tweeted: “Elon musk don collect my blue tick.”

The Force PPRO, Benjamin Hundeyin said: Legacy verification gone. I no dey pay shishi.”

Erica wrote: “Bye blue tick.”

Pooja reacting tweeted “Elon removed over 400K legacy verification. 

“So imagine 400,000 out of them pay for Twitter Blue at $8. 

“400,000 x $8 = $3,200,000 per month & $38,400,000 per year. Businessman of life.”

Nefertiti stated: “Elon Musk has removed the legacy verification of over 400K notable persons. Peter Obi, Atiku, Tinubu, Hillary Clinton & Donald Trump lost their blue check mark. Is Elon from this planet? Only an alien can compel Heads of Governments & Former Presidents to pay for Twitter blue.”
