Nine varsities get anti-rabies vaccines

The Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN)‎ on Thursday distributed human anti-rabies vaccines to nine federal universities in the country.

The vaccines were distributed to Dean of Faculties, Colleges of Veterinary Medicine in the accredited tertiary institutions including the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA), as part of efforts to eradicate rabies in the country.

The schools that received the vaccines are – University of Abuja, University of Ibadan, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, University of Nigeria, Nsukka and Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi.

Others are – University of Maiduguri, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta and Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike.

The Registrar of VCN, Dr. Markus Avong, said the distribution of the vaccines was in response to students’ complaints that they are not being vaccinated for rabies.
