NNPP expels Delta, Ogun chairmen for alleged anti-party activities

NNPP

• Party’s Excos dissolved in eight states

• ‘No crisis in our party’

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has said it is not having any internal crisis.

The party alleged that some of its members were working with other unnamed parties to destabilise it.

It announced the expulsion of its chairmen in Ogun and Delta states for alleged anti-party activities.

The NNPP alleged that those sent packing were responsible for the party’s recent woes.

The party’s acting National Chairman, Alhaji Kawu Ali, who announced the expulsion, also said NNP’s leadership had dissolved the executive of the party from the state to ward levels in Ogun, Katsina, Kaduna, Ekiti, Niger, Delta, Rivers and Zamfara.

Ali promised that the party would constitute a five-man caretaker committee for the states.

He said the suspension of the party’s leadership in those states followed the decision of its disciplinary committee to ensure discipline across board.

The party’s National Auditor, who headed the disciplinary committee, Ladipo Johnson, corroborated Ali’s allegations.

But Johnson maintained that despite the suspension and expulsion, the party was not in a crisis.

The national auditor explained that the dissolution of party’s structures in some states was not about anti-party alone but the deficient structures in those states.

He added that many people had left the party for various reasons.

According to him, the decision is in line with the policy of repositioning the party to serve Nigerians and for the future of the party.

“In line with this, we have expelled two people. Some have been placed on indefinite suspension and some state chapters have been dissolved – from the state executive down to the local government executive.

“Those who got together to say they want to take back the party from Musa Kwankwanso were on the wrong impression that they have been suspended when they were not. It is the state executive in their states that was suspended because of deficient structures.

“The beauty of the democracy we practise in this party is that even after the disciplinary committee has taken a decision, there is still an appeal process, which none of them has taken advantage of.

“So, there is no one taking the party back from anybody because no one has taken the party from anybody. Senator Kwankwanso came into this party with some people and we have worked together to achieve all that we have achieved within one and a half years.

“We are aware that there are people who want to destroy this party at this stage and we are equal to the task. I will sound this as a note of warning to those who feel that they can do business with this party.

“We have it on good authority that some people have lent themselves to a particular political party and will try to do everything they can to destabilise this party. It will not happen because we will be ready to take tough and hard decisions against such people, no matter who is involved. We will defend this party and move it forward…”
