Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) in Ikeja has urged Nigeria to prioritise innovation and technical skills development to function in the industrial space and advance its economy.
The branch and other experts gave the advice and at their 2022 Innovation week at the branch’s secretariat in Agege, Lagos.
It featured Francis Oguamanam Inno-Creativ Fair (FOiF) and Idiat Aderemi Amusu Project Skill Initiative (IAAPSi) for secondary and technical schools as well as undergraduates and above.
NSE Ikeja Chairman Mr. Olutosin Ogunmola said: “We engage with public secondary, technical schools and tertiary institutions in Lagos State, and as well as research and technical partners to make this programme of value for students and participants.”

He noted that after six years of the programme, the impact had been felt in schools.
“We see that in secondary schools, the teachers have been striving to expose students to the practical application of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects,” Ogunmola said.
Ms Nimot Muili, chair of the innovation committee, said: “We are revamping the project beyond winning prizes…
“We also intend to strengthen our relationship with learning institutions to domesticate some of those projects by featuring them in our ‘Innovation and Creativity Show’.
Mr. Olufemi Ariyo, who led the five-man judges, announced Iju Senior Grammar School, which presented “Walking Safe in a Green City” project, as winner.
Lagos State Model Senior College, Meiran, and Vetland Senior Grammar School came second and third.
