Hapoel Beer Sheva of Israel striker, Tony Nwakaeme is hopeful of getting called up to t he Super Eagles after adding to his goal tally in the Israeli top flight last weekend.
Nwakaeme and his compatriot , John Ogu were both on target as Beer Sheva etched a 2-1 away win at Hapoel Kfar Saba to cement their top spot in the league.
The 26-year-old has scored eight goals this season with three assists to lead Beer Sheva to the top of the HaAl table and a step closer to the league title.
Nwakaeme feels it’s just a matter of time before he gets the chance to strut his stuff in the national colours.
“Off course I will want to play for Nigeria, which player wouldn’t want to play for his country?” Nwakaeme queried when supersport.com asked him about playing for the Super Eagles. It’s always been my dream since I turned professional to play for Nigeria but I believe that it will happen in God’s time.
“All I have to do is to keep working hard and I believe the results will show itself. I’m doing well and helping my club contest for the league title.
“It’s not easy, it’s hard work, real hard work but the results are good. I thank God for his mercies and I believe my team-mates and I can do it. We can win the title.”
Nwakaeme also revealed how John Ogu has helped him settle down at Hapoel Beer Sheva and the discussions they have as regards the Super Eagles.
“John (Ogu) is more than a friend, he is like a brother to me and I’m happy he is here at Beer Sheva with him,” the former Petro Ploiesti player said.
“Even though I came to Israel before John, he was here at Beer Sheva so he knows the club better than I do and has helped me settle in quickly.
“We talk everyday and he tells me a lot about the Super Eagles which has motivated me to keep doing my best so as to earn a call-up.
“Nigeria has a lot of quality players. Everyone cannot play at the same time. I’m a patient person, I will wait for God’s time but I believe I will wear the colours of the Super Eagles soon.
