The Obaro of Kabba, Oba Michael Olabayo, who died on May 16, has been buried. He was 71
The three-day event, which climaxed on Saturday, was attended by Governor Yahaya Bello, and other eminent personalities.
Present were Speaker of the House of Assembly Umar Imam; ex-Governor Ibrahim Idris; ex-Deputy Governor Yomi Awoniyi; and ex-Minister of Police Affairs Maj.-Gen. David Jemibewon (rtd.)
Others were former Minister of Industry; Chief Kola Jamodu; Senators Dino Melaye and Smart Adeyemi; former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Chief Bayo Ojo, retired DIG Adeoye Adedayo; Tajudeen Yusuf; and Sunday Karimi.
At the reception at the Sacred Hearts’ Catholic Church, Kabba, Governor Bello urged the people to uphold the legacies of peace and love the late monarch left behind.
According to him, the people’s unity will be tested in the months ahead, but efforts must be made to ensure that peace continue to reign.
He urged them not to see the Obaro’s demise as the end of progress and development but to continue from where he stopped.
Bello, who extolled the deceased’s virtues, said he lived a life of service to God and humanity.
Catholic Bishop of Lokoja Diocese Bishop Martin Olorunmolu noted that the monarch lived a quality life worthy of emulation.
He enjoined Christians to always remember God in whatever position they find themselves, saying they will one day account for their deeds and misdeeds.
Bishop Olorunmolu advised the people to make the selection of the new Obaro crisis-free, saying the legacy of peaceful co-existence must be sustained.
The late Olabayo from the Ilajo ruling house ascended the throne on October 17, 1985.
