Obaseki orders investigation into N283m padded exam budget

Edo State Governor Mr. Godwin Obaseki has ordered investigation into the N283million padded budget for the conduct of First School Leaving Certificate Examination.

He vowed to unmask the people, who sent the request for the primary school examination, which was conducted for N30million.

The governor’s decision was taken yesterday at the Executive Council meeting in Benin. It was made known by the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Mr. Paul Ohonbamu.

“A memo was sent to the governor for the conduct of the examination and N283million was earmarked for it, which eventually cost N30 million. The governor is not comfortable with this. He has directed that those responsible for the disparity be identified and brought to book,” Ohonbamu said.

The other resolution reached at the meeting was the review of the law setting up the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) to keep pace with realities in the basic education sub-sector.

The commissioner said the Obaseki administration placed high premium on basic education, which was the foundation of the education system and was committed to reorganising it to deliver quality education to the people.

He said the council agreed that the distribution of treated mosquito nets be launched tomorrow, urging special assistants and senior special assistants to participate in driving the exercise.
