Obaseki splashes over $20,000 on filmmakers at ESIFF 2022

Filmmakers were rewarded for their ingenuity in the creative world by the Edo State Governor  Godwin Obaseki, at the maiden edition of the Edo State International Film Festival.

The filmmakers were rewarded by the governor to the tune of $20,000 during the award and gala night that wrapped up the four-day film festival in Benin City.

The producers of the Italian film, ‘On these mountains’ emerged winners of the first Governor’s award for the Best Indigenous feature film and were rewarded with the sum of $5,000.

Nigeria’s Joseph Nosa also got $5,000 for ‘Omoatama,’ under the category of Governor’s award for Best Film shot in Edo state while ‘Onaiwu,’ a Nigerian feature film fetched its producers of $10,000 for being the winner of the Governor’s award for the Best feature film (overall).

Other winners that got compensated for their wins include ‘Battle of the west,’ in the Best Use of Tech in film, ‘Zara’ for the Best Film shot on a Cellphone, and ‘The Funeral’ for the Best Student in Filmmaking. Each of the films won their producers a sum of $2,000 each.

During the award presentation, Obaseki, expressed delight at the film festival with a promise to continue to support the initiative.
