Decorated ex-international Monday Odiaka yesterday led Ajegunle Heroes to win the maiden Above 50 Football Competition thrashing Abeokuta FC 3-0 at the Legacy Pitch of the Lagos National Stadium.
The AJ team proved once again to be the home of football comfortably netting two quick goals in the first half of the match before sealing victory in the other half.
Odiaka said after lifting the winner’s trophy, “I’m very happy, the man that scored the fastest goal in the whole world, 1985 junior World Cup and also the only Nigerian player that his name is in Guinness Book of record.
“In my fifties, lifting up a trophy feels so surreal for my community, Ajegunle.”
Ajegunle Heroes also smiled home with N5 million while second-placed Abeokuta got N2 million.
In the third place match played earlier, Surulere FC, which paraded notable ex-internationals; Friday Ekpo, Sunday Ilevbare, and Godwin Opara were not lucky as Team Alimosho defeated them after playing 1-1 in regulation time. Alimosho won 4-3 from the penalty kicks to pocket the N1milion prize money.
