OGIRS extends tax filling deadline by two weeks

The Ogun State Internal Revenue Service (OGIRS) has extended the deadline for Annual Tax Returns from February 1 to 14.

The extension was to ensure that tax agents perform one of their civic responsibilities in line with the provision of the Personal Income Tax Act.

A statement signed by the Executive Chairman (OGIRS), Olugbenga Olaleye, said the decision was necessitated by appeals from tax agents who have not been able to file their returns through the Ogun State Electronic Tax Administration Portal (OGETAX).

He noted that the extension would give tax agents the opportunity to do the needful within the time frame to avoid paying a fine for failing to file their returns.

Olaleye restated the OGIRS determination to ensure that tax transactions in the state were automated to ensure that all Taxpayers and tax agents carry out tax transactions at homes, block leakages, promote ease of doing business and boost revenue generation.

He enjoined tax agents to log in  to OGIRS website, click on self- service link to access the portal.

He warned that defaulters  would be fined N500,000.
