Ogun police arrest 11 over cult violence plot

Eleven suspected members of a cult group have been apprehended in the Sango Ota area of Ogun State as they prepared to carry out a violent clash, police said.

Detectives swooped on them in a house on October 11, it was said.

The suspects were said to be responsible for the spate of violent cult clashes in the area.

Detectives got information that they were holding a meeting and the Divisional Police Officer for Sango Ota division, Saleh Dahiru, mobilised his men, So-Safe-Corps, Amotekun and operatives of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to the scene and arrested seven suspected members of the group while others escaped.

Police spokesman Abimbola Oyeyemi said yesterday that four other members of the gang were later arrested with the assistance of Ijoko Ota residents.

Oyeyemi said they had all confessed to being members of Aiye cult group.
