Nigeria’s Emanuel Gyang has revealed how he ensured his fiancée, Deborah Pam emerged the first Nigerian female to finish the 5th edition of the 10km Okpekpe International Road Race which was concluded on Saturday in Edo State.
In a chat with the NationSports, Gyang said his fiancée who was also amongst the top 8 athletes across the globe that ran the race has never been beaten in the five editions of the race
He said: “It was a great thing for me, I gave her programme and she adhered to the programme. She has made me proud by climbing up and maintaining that level since they started this championship.
I was on injury but I still gave her the story and she has maintained this level for the past five editions, no lady in Nigeria has defeated her from this position, at least is a great thing, my training can still maintain me and others to the top levels.”
The duo who have been dating for more than eight years are however working on plans to become parents soon.
Emmanuel said: “ We are still working on it, we want to get married but we want to get world class medal,If I could get one, or if I don’t get one she will get one, that is what we are working on, so far so good, we want to go for championship and commonwealth game next year.
If I don’t make it, she will make it, that’s what am working on on[ pulling his fiancée to himself]if we get the world medal, we can move together.
Deborah however said: “Yes am ready but anything he says I will back him up.”
Meanwhile, Deborah has advised upcoming athletes to stay focus. She said: “ As we have explained it ,it just training, and if you are humble and focuse, you can be champion of the championship. We are trying to build younger ones so that the team can continue to progress.”
